-star general, david petraeus, once considered a possible presidential candidate. this all started with an fbi investigation between e-mail between petraeus and his biographer, a woman named paula broadwell. so, we start this morning, with our senior justice correspondent, pierre thomas, who is in washington. pierre, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dan. the nation's keeper of secrets was keeping a scandalous one of his own. and just like that, an affair taints a storied military career and life of service to country. the resignation of the cia director stunned a city not easily shocked. one of the country's most respected and disciplined public officials left office admitting an indiscretion. in a statement to cia employees, petraeus acknowledged an affair and what he called extremely poor judgment. such behavior is unacceptable, the statement said. both as a husband, and as a leader of an organization such as ours. on thursday, petraeus went to the white house to turn in his resignation. the same place he had so frequently been called on to serve. >> it is a great privilege to serve

contacted the fbi after receiving threatening e-mails there were concerns that the e-mails had been hacked. >> the initial complain was harassment, it could have gone to e-mail hacking but there is no substantive information that this had anything to do with national security. >> reporter: those e-mails were linked back to paula broadwell who had access to petraeus in afghanistan as his biographer. the 40-year-old broadwell lives in north carolina with her husband and two kids avid runner and says they ed over their shared mental and physical discipline during her trips to afghanistan to interview him. -- >> it was an opportunity to be interview him on a run i thought i would test him, buts was go to test me >> reporter: despite amount of time they spent together petraeus is claiming the affair did not begin in afghanistan, but after he retired from the military in august 2011. one week later, he became director of the cia, he carried on at fair during most of his tenure at the cia. friends say petraeus ended the affair four months ago the same time kelly received those threatening e-mails

gears here. now to the bizarre and frustrating search for one of the fbi's most wanted. he's eluded capture because of his average looks. he's able to blend in just about anywhere, making him almost impossible to catch. this morning, his life on the run may finally be over. abbie boudreau has the story. >> reporter: this morning, jason brown is presumably still on the run, eight years to the day. police say he brazenly robbed an armored truck and killed the guard. >> this is just a cold-blooded ambush. >> reporter: brown is one of the fbi's ten most-wanted fugitives. but while he may not been a household name, out of everyone on this list that includes a prison escapee, the fbi gets the most tips about him. because they say, he's just so average. >> when you have someone that is very -- has common features, people will walk by someone, or they'll go into a coffee shop. and they go, that looks like that guy that was on "america's most-wanted." >> reporter: just look at him. in these new age progression photos, the now 43-year-old could pass for the guy next door. average height. aver

to the polls. all weekend, we awe the voters waiting up to eight hours to cast an early ballot. the fbi is investigating after dozens of voters went out to voters, mainly republicans, questioning their eligibility to vote. also in the swing states of ohio and wisconsin we've got tensions brewing over some billboards that went alleging voter fraud. and now reports of phony phone calls. these are new reports that just came out over the evening. and other swing state phone calls that went out predominantly african-american voters, giving them fake information about the polls. a lot of this could extend past election day. >> and hurricane sandy, josh. >> yes, election officials in the storm zones making sure that the voters displaced by the hurricane are able to cast their ballots today. portable polling booths have been set up inside tents. shuttle buses carrying voters to alternate sites. and people in the hardest-hit areas are being allowed to vote at any polling location in their state. some people in new jersey can also vote by e-mail. although, they have to send in a paper ballot as a
